Smiling Towards a Brighter Future

CWARS
Cambodian War Amputees Rehabilitation Society
Welcome to our website

2008 is the 15th year in which CWARS has been operating. During this time over 7,500 disabled people throughout Cambodia, the majority of who are victims of anti-personnel mines, injured during war. With the assistance of the CWARS training programs, they have been able to overcome the stigma associated with their disability, and prove their ‘capability’ instead of their ‘disability’. Thus, they regain their dignity, their self esteem, and fully integrate themselves back into Cambodian mainstream society. Furthermore, over 37,500 family members benefited indirectly from the programs.

Based on this success, we have changed our motto from ‘Landmine Victims Assistance’ to ‘Smiling Towards a Brighter Future’. This is a result of the smiling faces seen everywhere there is a CWARS graduate.

MESSAGE FROM

THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Dear Readers and Visitors,

Welcome to CWARS;

For more than 13 years now we have been implementing a project that helps landmine victims and disabled people become fully active members of their community, live independently, and realize their full potential. As you may have seen on the summary results, over seventy thousand people have been assisted by CWARS project, more are currently enrolled in our programs, and others are in the process of determining what specific assistance is required. Our efforts, talents and commitments may not have been as fruitful and effective as stated without the back-up, motivation and financial support from our long term financial partner Kadoorie Charitable Foundation (KCF) and its trustees. In providing us with financial support in most of our projects, they have ensured the success enjoyed by the CWARS organization today.

We will also take this opportunity to convey our sincerest appreciation and acknowledgement of KCF for their generosity and willingness, together with CWARS, in improving the livelihood and living conditions of the many thousands of disabled people in Cambodia. Without their support, CWARS would never have been able to stand as we are today - The Leading Agency in the Field of Disability Reintegration.

Also, we would like to take this opportunity to thank some of our most loyal and resourceful staff members:

Mr. Kong Mao (Joined CWARS since 1996)

Mr. Nong Buntheng (Since 2000)

Mrs. Gin Sony (since 2003)

Mr. Thoung Chroeun (since 2000)

We also want to extend our gratitude to the many other staff and personnel that are continually committed, loyal and share the hardships of the projects with the senior management of the organization. Without these key staff members’ involvement, we would never have developed and achieved as much as we have to this day. Their participation and devotion is highly appreciated.
